King Cetshwayo Musical Stage Show Durban 2018 – What is the story?

King Cetshwayo Musical Stage Show Durban 2018 in KwaZulu Natal story-line is based on the Battle of Isandlwana in January 1879 when the Zulu army convincingly defeated the British forces. As this is important to the Zulu nation the battle which occurred the next day at Rorkes Drift when the table were turned inspired the movie “Zulu” which has been aired every year on TV for decades on 26 December in the United Kingdom.

The highly acclaimed production premiered in Wales in 2017 when members of the Royal Zulu household were in attendance. For the first time it will finally be presented to South African audiences in Durban at the Playhouse from 20 -23 June 2018.

The show’s duration is 1 hour 45 minutes and times are as follows

The production is brought to Durban by Wushiwini Pan African Centre for Arts, Culture and Heritage in association with The Playhouse and KZN Department of Arts and Culture.

King Cetshwayo the Musical was conceived by local playwright Jerry Pooe with talented praise poet Mbuso Khoza, the Musical Director. Inchanga born actor, 45 year-old Mxolisi Ngubane with his appropriate physical presence performs the lead role. Popular “Uzalo” soapie actor Mklaksanipho Maphumolo plays the role of commander of the Zulu army, Mnyamana Buthelezi, also known as Mkhandumbe.

We also welcome the remake of “Shaka Zulu” now titled “Shaka Ilembe” the MNet TV mini-series currently in production.
