Shaka Illeme MNet TV mini-series – History

A previous successful series of 8 episodes was aired on television for the South African Broadcasting Corporation in the 1980’s called “Shaka Zulu” during the sanctions era. With a scattering of overseas actors such as Edward Fox, Christopher Lee and Robert Powell in the series, Henry Cele a goalkeeper nicknamed the “Black Cat” with Aces United and Royal Zulus played the lead role. Much of the filming took place as Shakaland in the heart of Zululand. For more details on original series click here

Shaka Ilembe MNet TV mini-series – Future Production

Producers Bomb Productions state that “with ambitions of making a series as epic and vast as Game of Thrones, we want to tell the story of the Nguni peoples who migrated to below the Pongola river and ruled over this verdant land.”

There is no doubt the story of the life of Shaka and the characters on the stage at that time are full of intrigue with lots of heroes and villains.

Also there is no question that the South African local film industry has advanced in leaps and bounds since the 1980’s when the first series was made. Bomb production has experience in the production of Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Jacob’s Cross and Isibaya to name a few.

Following the worldwide success of the phenomenal “Black Panther” movie recently and a great interest in Africa and its culture if the goods are produced then this could also be a worldwide hit.

Zululand News wishes all involved in this project the greatest success.

A recently published 90 page South African comic book, “Shaka Rising” is getting international rave reviews.

Our only wish is that outside shooting takes place in authentic beautiful Zululand and bring some desperately needed employment for locals as extras.
