Western Shores Isimangaliso Wetland Park Zululand is part of the only South African World Heritage Site situated in beloved Zululand. The 25000 hectares of rehabilitated wildlife area has only recently opened to the public in 2013. - The Dukuduku Gate Complex is on the road (R618) to St. Lucia
- Nhlozi Gate is off (East) the N2 highway between Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe

- Considerable work has been done within the reserve so roads are in good condition and a standard sedan will easily cope.
- Generally, visibility is good for game watching.
- Not a Big 5 area but has a good variety of game including a number of birds.

- uMthoma Aerial Boardwalk is a shady and cool place to visit and the cry of the fish eagle can often be heard.
- Charters Creek is ideal for an early morning sunrise photograph over the lake.
- eMgadankawu Hide is adjacent to a water hole that attracts game most of the day.
- Makakatana Bay Lodge is an exclusive upmarket private lodge on the Western Shore and is the only accommodation available.
