There is a wide variety of accommodation on offer in and around the town. From camping to backpacking, there are also lodges from up-market establishments to self-catering units and bed and breakfasts. Hidden off the main street there is a glamping establishment for something different.

In close proximity to the town is the Umfolozi Game Reserve and the Western and Eastern Shore sections of iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Self-drive or safari tours are suitable options for game viewing. For an ideal beach experience there are beaches at St Lucia or take a short trip north to Cape Vidal for better swimming conditions.

Cruises on St Lucia Estuary are very popular and operate throughout the year. Hippos and crocodiles sightings occur regularly and the estuary teams with bird life. Options available for excellent viewing are large cruisers and smaller barges. Cruises take place throughout the day but the late afternoon trip often provides spectacular sunsets.

There are numerous other activities and things to do including hiking, fishing, bird viewing, horse safaris and beach rides. Another very pleasant option is just relaxing.
