Talana Museum has the distinct feel of a small mining town. There is a train station with Garrick Locomotive and the Shosholoza carriage, mining sheds, mining and agricultural equipment, farm buildings, general store and even a dance hall.

  • History of Coal in Dundee Area – Includes four extensive exhibits. In the past Dundee was the coal mining centre of South Africa.
  • Smith Cottage – The restored home of Peter Smith, the founder of Dundee.
  • Glass, Bead and Fashion Gallery – Be dazzled by a bright rainbow of colors as items from the past depict our multi-cultural history and society.
  • Gift and Curio Shop – Offers a wide variety of locally manufactured clothing, bags bead work, glassware, historical books, Nguni leather cushions and leather handbags, Zulu wire-work and woodwork.
  • The Miners’ Rest Restaurant – Have a home styled snack or cooked meal in surrounds of the past. On Sundays a buffet is offered and a la carte menu, Monday to Saturday.
  • Satyagraha complex – A warm colored quiet place to allow for contemplation. In this area the exhibit of the 1913 Passive Resistance Movement is fully covered. Local Indians are a result of the Indian Indenture labor system.
  • Bronze Bust Statue of Mahatma Gandhi – Is found in the peaceful gardens of the museum.
