King Cetshwayo Celebration 2019 Zululand Tourism Umhlathuze – A celebration was held in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom on August 2017. His Majesty, King Goodwill KaBhekuZulu hosted Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall to strengthen cultural ties between the people of KwaZulu-Natal and the United Kingdom in November 2011.
The 2017 event was to celebrate the birthday of King Cetshwayo. Besides royal dignitaries in attendance was the Royal Zulu Choir, Zulu warriors and even hip-hop act The Dream Team. There was an enactment of the Battle of Isandlwana which took place in January 1879 when the Zulu army defeated the British. Also on this day in 1879 and the following day there was the Battle of Rorke’s Drift
King Cetshwayo Celebration 2019 Zululand Tourism Umhlathuze – Who was King Cetshwayo?
A son of king Mpande, Cetshwayo reined as the king and leader of the Zulu nation from 1873 – 1879 during the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. During his reign two of the most famous battles, Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift took place in Zululand on two consecutive days. - King Cetshwayo Celebrations will be an introduction to the 140th commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift in January 2019.
- The Zulu Royal Reed Dance, called uMkhosi woMhlanga in Zulu takes place each year at royal eNyokeni Palace in Nongoma, Zululand.
- Zulu First Fruits Cultural Festival Umkhosi WoSelwa, a 4-day event on the last full moon of each year.
- Shaka Day Celebrations 24 September 2019 (Heritage Day)
- An annual sangoma event celebrating the first fruits called Khekhekhe’ Ceremony takes place on 23 February outside Eshowe.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu had the following to say:
“His Majesty continues to give our province the uniqueness and competitive edge. Our King is not only the direct heir and descendant of all the kings lying in the valley of Emakhosini, but is also the symbol of peace and unity of our people. We thank His Majesty for his guidance and for ensuring our participation in King Cetshwayo Celebrations,” said Mchunu.
“As the province we are embarking on a campaign to market ourselves to the UK. Every year the province welcomed visitors from the UK and all over the world to the old Kingdom of the Zulu people. We want to increase the number of tourists who will attend the commemoration of the Battle of Isandlwana next year (2019), especially those from the United Kingdom.”
